Ninety percent of patients who suffer from migraines get at least a partial relief of pain after surgery

, say plastic surgeons in the United States.

Dr. Bahman Guyuron, head of the study of the Medical Center of University Hospitals Case (CMC) and the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, says, "almost 30 percent of patients no longer suffered from headaches after the surgery."

Guyuron, a plastic surgeon, has developed surgical techniques for migraine after noticing that some patients with migraine headaches were reduced after a
lifting the forehead. The techniques consist in the "off surgery" of the "hot spots" in the muscles or nerves that produce pain, says Guyuron. The study, published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery reports that 29 percent of patients stated that surgery eliminated migraines and 59 percent reported a significant decrease in five years after surgery. The remaining patients reported no changes in the activity of the headache.
In their study, Guyuron and his colleagues tested with botulinum toxin A - Botox - 69 migraine patients, to confirm the correct spots. For most of them, surgery was addressed to disable at least two critical points. "The results provide strong evidence that the decommissioning of one or more surgical critical points can eliminate or reduce the frequency, duration and intensity of migraine, and the results are lasting," Guyuron and colleagues say in a statement . How
